Roraima-tepui

hike and sleep at the top of a moonlike plateau above the clouds, wander among endless forms of rocks, inescapable labyrinths, bizarre vegetation and meet endemic forms of life

TRIP LEVEL & EXPECTATIONS

All our edu-trips are adventurous and we try to keep the right balance between adventure and comfort. The difficulty levels of the trips to Roraima range from MILD (Option 1, when the summit is only accessed by helicopter) to MILD+ (Options 2 & 3, when at least the ascent is done by foot). The trips are suitable to everyone, but unexperienced hikers should prepare MILD+ options by doing some regular exercise beyond their normal routine. Take the stairs instead of the elevator, cycle to work if possible, run 2 times a week for instance. This is not mandatory, but you will enjoy more if you are fit. We take care of your equipment while trekking/hiking, which makes things much easier and more enjoyable for those who want to take many photographs. All what you will carry is your binoculars, your camera and a small daypack with rain clothes and a water bottle… unless you refuse and like to be challenged of course. We do our best to have homogenous groups so everyone can walk at her/his own speed without getting frustrated. Hikes on the summit can sometimes be challenging because of the weather and difficult terrain, but here again we make sure you are safe and comfortable.

Please note that the weather is highly unpredictable on tepui summits. We will reach a maximum elevation of ca. 2800 m and air temperature can sometimes drop around 5°C at night. Rains can be torrential, especially during the wet season and the wind can be very powerful. Hence the importance to be well-equipped (we help you for this).

We organise trips during the whole year because we believe that both the dry and the wet seasons are equally attractive. But the wet season is definitely much more challenging. Peak of the wet season is usually between May and August; peak of the dry season is usually in February-March. Please contact us to check which season would work the best for you.

The summit of Roraima harbours species of plants and animals that you will never see anywhere else and we even spotted previously unreported species. Tepui summits are sacred places for the locals and the summit environment is very sensitive to disturbance. It is important to us to respect these fantastic landscapes and several rules are applied to not disturb the flora and the fauna. These basic rules must be followed and will be explained to you before we start the expedition. Likewise, all equipment will be disinfected prior the trip to avoid the spreading of diseases and introduction of exotic organisms on the summit.

Please do not hesitate to contact us for any question, or any special request. We are very flexible and can adapt to any situation
